Maintenance Continued...

When using other filters, make sure you have one that is powerful enough for your tank, or you are bound to run into problems with water quality and of course maintenance. Below is a standard maintenance schedule which works with any filtration configuration, assuming you have proper equipment, as explained above. For more information on filtration click here. Standard Maintenance Schedule

Daily
  • Feed fish according to directions on fish food package (remove any uneaten food).
  • Check and make sure all filters are working and flowing properly.
  • Check water temperature.
Weekly
  • Rinse filter cartridges of Emperor 280 and 400 models, in tap water (recommended, not required).
  • Gently wipe inside tank glass to remove any algae build up.
  • Add treated water to compensate for any evaporation loss.
Monthly (more frequently if necessary)
  • Use gravel vacuum to clean gravel, vacuum visible waste, and uneaten food, only empty 20-30% of the water in the aquarium, (Do not to empty tank! Also it is not necessary to remove fish from aquarium).
  • Get a water test.
  • Clean your filter thoroughly (remove from tank and clean all parts).
  • Remove and replace filter cartridges and media, according to directions that came with filter.
